The Walcot Collective

The outcome of a shared opportunity has led to The Walcot Collective, a disparate group of pioneers in Fine Art Collaboration.

It was mooted, that we exhibit as a group, as the work we were producing from our time at Walcot had strong and similar themes running through it. This would produce a cohesive collection that an audience would be sympathetic to.

We now had a focused, shared project, we just needed to finish our work, find a location to exhibit at, a sponsor to cover costs, a date, create promotional marketing, and handle some project management.

We all started with the same blank slate. And were offered a carte blanche by the institution by resurrecting links between Corsham Town and Bath School of Art & Design that would be advantageous to all.

The collaborators were thrilled to be offered the space free of charge (no need to look for sponsorship) for a period of 2 months. What a wonderful opportunity. With little history and no status quo to defend, we were able to curate our own exhibition without interference. No limits were placed. No demands made on the work being shown. Carte blanche.

A focused, shared purpose and a clearly outlined project has led to a successful collaboration. There is no, one, individual who took ownership. If one party falls short, we all fall short. Therefore, we played to each other’s strengths. A sense of quality was adhered to and with careful consideration, all the works were displayed in their best light.
